It's Party Time!
Here it is. I have just popped into existence in the blogiverse. I have been reading some posts on other people's blogs for quite some time now. They have been fun to read as well as informative, so I thought I would try my hand at blogging. I will try to remember that these are not papers I need to turn in for a grade, or else I will never complete one. I will treat this like it is a party and enjoy it, sampling from the various treats I have before me, and participating in all of the fun activities that parties have to offer.
On May 19, my eldest daughter Miranda was able to attend a birthday party for one of her classmates. The party was held at one of the community swimming pools, which is right next to a covered set of basketball courts. This was a great time for both of us, creating a lasting memory that I will share part of here.
The first part of the party was held in the pool. Miranda swam around the shallow end in a life jacket when she wasn't drying herself out wrapped up in a towel. (Do you see her in this picture? No, she's not the one wrapped up in the towel. She's actually just to the left of the man sitting on the edge.)
While she was swimming, I decided to do a few laps in the lanes you see to the right. I did the crawl, the backstroke, the sidestroke, the breaststroke, and the elementary backstroke. I haven't been in a large pool for ages, so I forgot how fun swimming is. I also took a couple of jumps off of the diving board. The diving board in the top right corner. I don't do head-first dives any more, since the last one I did 20 years ago failed miserably.
After swimming, we showered off, dried ourselves, and got dressed for the second part of the party. There was fried chicken, corn dogs, and assorted drinks for all to enjoy in the shade of the canopy covering the basketball courts. And there were presents. Lots of presents.
The theme of the party was princesses. It is not hard to believe that there were several in attendance that day.
Miranda picked out a present and I picked out a card for her friend's special occasion. She picked out a Cinderella doll, and I picked out an audio card with a message from a Disney princess that made the birthday girl feel really special. (The birthday girl is Lily, and she is the blonde-haired girl in the pink and purple clothes.)
After the presents were opened and freezer pops were consumed, there was some time to shoot rubber balls out of a gun.
There was time for one more group picture, and then everybody went their separate ways. On the way back home, my daughter's happy face told me that she really enjoyed this memorable day.
